From student project to market leader

Smart Information Systems was founded in July 2006 by four students - Markus Linder, Martin Schliefnig, Christian Weiss and Svetlana Hollerer. Since its inception the idea of connecting customers with products through E-Commerce processes was at the forefront.

Getting admitted to the business incubator "INiTS" was particularly beneficial during the start-up phase. In addition to garnering clients in the first year of the business, the extensive development of the key-enabling technology, SMARTASSISTANT based on Semantic Web technologies, commenced. Its research and development received grants from the FFG and ZIT, which facilitated a fast realisation and the quick market entry of the SMARTASSISTANT.

The company could even continue on its successful path after the challenging years following 2009, with annual double digit growth. On top of that, 2009 was the first year Smart Information Systems turned a profit - ever since, it has had positive performances.
In 2011, the barrier of more than 500,000 online product consultations per month has been broken. By the end of 2012, there will be 1,000,000 online product consultations enabled through Smart Information Systems' solutions.
